My two-week probationary period is over and I have officially filed a W-4, gained a professional/corporate e-mail, and started a schedule for students. Thus far, I have one couple and one gentleman for private lessons. When the "baby blue" (the second dance floor) is finished in the studio, I'll be teaching belly dance in that room.
The secretary has left, so I've assumed a few of her duties which I don't mind at all. I love office stuff -- creating posters and welcome fliers for dances, advertising on facebook, and setting up for parties (Fridays/Saturdays).
I haven't been to pole since I started the job.... nor belly dancing for that matter. I'll need to schedule something for weekends. This career choice came with sacrifices, but I'm happy and grateful for that with which I have been blessed.

I love my job.
The hours are good, the people are great... my boss is leading me to believe that if I so choose, I can really have a steady career there...
I'm learning so much, I'm having so much fun, and I'll make so much more money than ever before. I'm getting paid to have fun and stay fit. WHOO HOO!
Week one of eight down in training. It's a lot to learn the dances, then learn both leader and follower parts but I like it! I'm happier and my friends/family can tell, too. I also love that my friends are happy FOR me.
I'm finally on a good sleep schedule. I work regular hours until 9pm and when I finally get home, I eat and crash. Working out all day tires me out by late evening. I'm pretty energetic; I'm difficult to tucker out.
This job sure is teaching me one thing: What not to dance in. I'm gonna need a new wardrobe.

My prospective boss invited me to a social Friday evening for casual introductions and... probably the opportunity to scope my future workplace out. I met students and instructors alike. I was nervous at first, but I had a grand time. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The venue is gorgeous at night, by the way. I was stunned. I will gladly make a habit of attending these weekly social dances.
I was picked up hours later (around 7am) by my director's husband and we drove to Rehoboth Beach for the Stand Up To Cancer dance in memory of their daughter. It's funny because I spent the last two years ballroom dancing that it was nothing but awkward dancing to club music with drunk&wild people. I managed to get a good hustle and merengue in there before the night was done. I'm glad I could help decorate for the festivities and even just lend an ear when conversation got sensitive and sniffles became a regular occurrence. On a postive note, I was spending a weekend at the beach and laughing my butt off with absolutely loveable gay men -- and lots of them ::laughs::.
Sunday morning over bagels I say goodbye to my director. We were sad, but she put so perfectly, "my babies need to grow up sometime". She made me promise I was going to make my boss-to-be take good care of me.
Here's to my first day at work!

So I have the best news of (quite possibly) my life:
Friday I was told I won't be rehired for tech work at the University in the fall (I'm no longer a student, I can't fit under miscellaneous pay) because they can't afford to keep me on anymore.
Monday afternoon I sent out resumes. Five minutes before work ends, I mail out one more --  shot in the dark because I knew I wasn't going to get the position, but I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't apply.
I go to the gym, exhaust myself, get home at 10:30 at night. Checking my e-mail at 11pm, I get this in my e-mail:

Ruth:

... You have quite an impressive collection of skills.  I would like to ... invite you in for an interview.  ...

We are in need of an instructor and I am also looking for a potential office managers/receptionist.  If you can see me tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:30 ...

Let me know if tomorrow works.

I didn't get any sleep that night, had the worst allergies that morning (due to lack of sleep) and just..... went.
Two hours later (and after meeting his WIFE), I was asked the best sentence ever spoken to me yet -- "Would you like a career in ballroom dancing?" Can you believe I stayed cool as a cucumber and just softly said yes with a smile?! Aaaaaaah!
At the end of the interview, he had me dance with him then we switched "roles" and he had me lead him. He likes my dancing and wants to train me to be a professional dancer/instructor.
He's gonna write up a formal contract and job offer while he's oversees representing the US in his DanceSport meetings.
This venue is GORGEOUS. It's supposedly the nicest ballroom studio within hundred of miles (some say most of the East Coast) and I'm going to work there! It's 20 minutes away. Who knew?
